In honor of the opening of their new exhibit at HCC-Ybor Art Gallery, Just Suppose, husband and wife photographic artists Jerry Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor present a lecture on their methods and techniques in the HCC-Ybor Main Stage Theater; an opening reception for the exhibit follows at the gallery. 6 p.m., Performing Arts Building, Palm Avenue and 15th Street, Ybor City.

2. This months Indie Film Café selection is Special O' Laughics, a documentary shot in Sarasota that follows ten mentally challenged adults as they set out to make their dreams of becoming comedians a reality, from their start taking classes with comedy club owner Les McCurdy, to their big night of stand-up. University of Tampa kicks off its fall Honors Symposia series with The Accidental Revolution: Why State Legislators No Longer Listen, a legislative analysis by Dr. Scott Paine, associate professor of communication and government and world affairs. 5. At this months Tampa Bay Sierra Club General Meeting, filmmaker Bill Retherford presents his 30-minute documentary documentary, The Green Monster: It Came From the River, about the toxic algae bloom that turned the St. Johns River in Jacksonville a phosphorescent green. 6:30 social hour and new member registration, 7 p.m. meeting, Hilton Garden Inn, 1700 E.
