Hello everybody on this wet Thursday morning.
We want to remind our regular readers that you can check out yours truly this afternoon (and most every Thursday afternoon for hopefully the foreseeable future) as we return back to local community radio station WMNF 88.5FM to host a one hour talk-show. We'd dig it if you can tune in (also accessible on the Internet at wmnf.org), where our guest will be St. Petersburg House Democrat Rick Kriseman.
On to today's news, where we learn that with so many people running for Tampa City Council, it takes a personality of some heft to create news by not running, such as is the case with John Dingfelder announcing yesterday that he will not challenge a recently passed law that would forbid him to run this election cycle, but instead will open up his own law firm.
Speaking of the Tampa City Council, we feature a profile today on a candidate running in Dingfelder's former district 4 seat in South Tampa, Harry Cohen.
As some of our readers may recall, months ago we wrote about a Hillsborough county activist trying to get an anti-tethering law passed that would prevent dogs from being put on a leash for most of the day. Such laws have been passed in lots of communities in recent years, but Hillsborough officials have been hesitant to go along. Read new developments about that here.
And the Florida Public Interest Research Group produced a study yesterday emphasizing that roads really don't pay for themselves, a topic of discussion in recent months when it comes to funding public transit in the Bay area.
the report here.
