I've decided for a greener landscape and to kill my yard. I will not waste water trying to keep the grass green. I will not use chemicals to kill the weeds. I don't want to pollute the air any further with a gas-powered lawn mower and I've tried an electric one but it is not powerful enough for the weeds and overly agressive bahia grass. So, now I must decide the best way to kill the lawn.
The article, How to Kill Your Lawn, in the Los Angeles Times, says the big dig method is not the most practical as it may remove too much topsoil and incite crab grass. I certainly do not need to incite any further unwelcome plants in my yard.
