On Wednesday, Lyft announced that it will donate $1 to St. Pete Pride for every ride taken to and from the weekend’s events, offering two designated Lyft pick-up/drop-off locations near the parade, holding its own booth at the festival Sunday, and participating in Saturday’s official Pride Parade, according to an announcement from Lyft.
The first designated pick-up/drop-off will be at 100 4th Ave. NE., just two blocks back from the parade’s route on Bayshore Drive NE. The second location, at the intersection of Beach Dr. NE. and 2nd Ave. NE. is 100 2nd Ave. NE.
Lyft’s booth at the festival will be part of the company’s “Two is Too Few” campaign. The name of this campaign references trans and non-binary individuals who identify themselves outside the two dominant gender-specific pronoun groups: she/her and he/him.
This booth can be found in North Straub park near the intersection of Beach and 4th Ave NE. on Saturday and at Booth C24, next to the Old Key West Bar and Grill on Sunday.
Back in May, Lyft announced that they had opened up their app’s pronoun preference settings for drivers and passengers to include “they/them/theirs”; “she/her/hers”; “he/him/his”; “my pronoun isn’t listed”; and “prefer not to say” as options.
The company also announced that in partnership with the National Center for Transgender Equality, Lyft will be offering $200 in financial support for transgender drivers to work through the process of legally changing their names.
