In the wake of America’s second deadliest weekend, Tampa Bay activist groups are inviting the community to an "Evening of Action Against Gun Violence” this week.
Tampa’s March for Our Lives and Moms Demand Action groups will hold a gathering on Friday, August 9 at Joe Chillura Park, located at 600 E. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa, from 7 p.m.- 8 p.m.
“[We’ll] be hosting a community gathering to remember the lives lost in El Paso and Dayton, as well as lives lost every day to gun violence in cities all across the U.S.,” it says in a press release.
Those in attendance will have the opportunity to write to their representatives, send their condolences to the communities in El Paso and Dayton, engage in live art demonstrations and sign the petition to add the “Florida Ban on Semiautomatic Rifles and Shotguns Initiative” to the 2020 ballot.
There will also be information regarding gun violence prevention organizations in the Tampa Bay area.
