Well, there certainly was a lot of drama last night, wasn't there? The Kendrick Meek dropping out of the Senate race story? No, the first 7 1/2 innings of Game Two of the World Series. But the drama ended in an endless bottom of the eighth inning when the Texas Rangers bullpen collectively couldn't throw a strike to save their lives, and now George W. Bush's favorite team is in a serious hole against the SF Giants, down 2 games to 0. Actually, conservative media digs the Rangers, as I see this morning that columnist Charles Krauthammer thinks Texas will win in 7 games.
Back to hardball politics- the blogosphere was lit up last night with the story that Kendrick Meek had agreed to quit the Senate race (twice, which I really don't get) after discussions with former President Bill Clinton, to let Charlie Crist sweep and take his votes to try to knock off Marco Rubio. Meek was all over the broadcast television screens this morning denying it, but it doesn't look good for the Miami Congressman? His chances next week in the election? No, his reputation. But the bottom line is this: though a good percentage of voters, especially Democrats, have already gone to the polls, many others haven't – and if you were stuck between deciding on Meek or Charlie Crist, don't you have information to go ahead and vote, regardless of whether Kendrick is in or out?
Meanwhile, when the Kendrick Meek story broke, I was in the Centro Asturiano building in Ybor City, waiting to hear Alex Sink's running mate, Rod Smith, make a rare campaign appearance in Tampa. Other than the candidates themselves and a lot of political insiders, there didn't appear to be too many Democrats from the grass roots in attendance.
