Did you know that there are approximately 50,000 sea turtles in Florida during the summertime? This is due to their nesting season that takes place in our waters between the months of May and October, making Florida the most important nesting area in the United States. But the sea turtle is still considered to be in danger of extinction due to loss of habitats, commercial fishing, pollution and demand for their by-products (meat, eggs, etc.).
This Wednesday, July 27, enjoy an insightful presentation about our endangered Florida sea turtles by Director of Education with the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Joe Malo, at the Sand Pearl Resort. Learn about their life histories, habitats and conservation. Afterward, take a walk outside and visit nesting beach habitat and realize how remarkable our Florida sea turtles really are and find out how you can help these fascinating sea creatures.
The event is free but space is limited and registration is required. To RSVP, call Dave Howard at (727) 343-1272, or email: d_howard2001@yahoo.com (if emailing, please put "Nesting Sea Turtles Program" in the subject line).
Wednesday, July 27; 6-8 p.m. 500 Mandalay Avenue, Clearwater Beach.
