A portion of Americans who read web headlines on social media believe that National Public Radio is the liberal, biased media. They should listen to WAMU’s 1A with Joshua Johnson.

The talk and call-in program emanates from Washington D.C. and is distributed by NPR. Johnson’s handling of his diverse panel of guests speaking about the nation’s most pressing issues is the stuff Thanksgiving dinner fantasies are made of. Questions are pointed. Discussion is even-keeled, and conversations never disintegrate into a shouting match — no matter how much the guests’ opinions may differ.

On Monday, February 11, Tampa Bay will have an opportunity to see how Johnson — who was born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida before beginning his public radio career by helping launch a unique regional news partnership between Miami’s NPR station, WLRN, and The Miami Herald — does it when 1A tapes live from The University of South Florida St. Petersburg’s University Student Center.

Tickets to be a part of the live broadcast are free with registration, and attendees will have to be on-site before 10 a.m. when doors are locked. Organizers suggest that attendees plan on arriving on campus by 9 a.m.
