President Obama continued his campaign stops through North Carolina and Virginia on Tuesday, trying both to pressure Congress to vote on his jobs package, and to raise his poll numbers in two critical battleground states that he took in 2008 but where he's struggling in 2011.
One of Obama's strongest supporters remains organized labor, and in Tampa on Wednesday afternoon activists intend on rallying in support of what is known as the American Jobs Act – and specifically the $105 billion part of the $447 package that focuses on infrastructure spending.
Lynne Webb, president of the West Central Florida Federation of Labor, said in a press release:
"The choice today is crystal clear. We stand with veterans, working families and the small businesses that create two-thirds of American jobs. We stand against the Wall Street speculators and CEOs who cut our wages, crashed our economy and shipped our jobs overseas."
