It should come as no surprise, but Democratic presidential candidate Mayor Pete Buttigieg is ruffling feathers with some of his criticisms of Vice President Mike Pence. What’s also not surprising is that Pence supporters are sending Buttigieg hate email to the wrong email address.

Just ask St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, who posted a Facebook Note detailing how his email address, Mayor@StPete.org, has been getting emails defending Donald Trump, Pence and America’s Christian values.

The emails, as you’d expect, are peppered with unique punctuation, capitalization, emojis, Hillary hate and, you guessed it, attacks on liberals and the fake news media (we’ll spare you the details, but you can read them here).

Kriseman’s note did not address how fucking dumb you have to be to send your hate email to the wrong email address, but it did shed light on the kind of vitriol that Buttigieg — who would be the first openly gay President of the United States if elected — has to deal with.

“If I’m getting inadvertent emails like this, I know the intentional ones my friend Pete are getting must be much worse,” the note said.

“As he continues to make a serious case to lead our nation, let us not lose sight of the historic nature of his candidacy and the venom he, his husband, and gay Americans everywhere continue to face.”

In his note, Kriseman encouraged folks to continue spreading a message of peace and acceptance.

“Let us teach, because as has been said, ignorance breeds fear and hatred,” Kriseman wrote. “Let us love.”
