Hamil is one of the main organizers for the Resist the RNC march, and says that come rain or shine the protest will happen. The Florida native feels that the convention requires a varied assortment of voices in protest of the policies set forth by the Republican Party.
At a press conference on Friday, Hamil addressed various questions while brushing off the two most prevalent ones facing the planned action: the fear of violence and whether or not incoming Tropical Storm Isaac will cause the event to be cancelled.
After videos calling for violence by online hacktivist group Anonymous surfaced, there’s been an increased sense of tension about many of the anti-conservative movements that will be in Tampa for the convention. Hamil was quick to refute that there would be any threat of violence from the movement, or from any extremist groups that might try to join up with the march.
“Here we’re having a peaceful march, everyone is invited. The only trouble we’ve ever seen at these movements are from the police.”
