A remorseful Scott Orsini initially said that he would not drop out of his race for St. Petersburg City Council following the surfacing of insensitive Twitter posts about race, women and the LGBTQ community.

It seems that he’s had a change of heart.

Janelle Irwin of Florida Politics reports that the 53-year-old Bay area lawyer and Democrat will now drop out. The news comes after the loss of an endorsement from Florida Rep. Jennifer Webb, and it leaves lawyer John Hornbeck and real estate investor Robert Blackmon in a nonpartisan race for the District 1 seat.

“After consulting with my family and my friends, I have made the decision that continuing on as a candidate for District 1 would not be of benefit to myself, my family, my supporters, or the City of St. Petersburg,” Orsini wrote in a statement. “I would much rather throw in the hat now than to have these relentless, politically motivated attacks take any further toll on my family.”
