We tried; we really did. We futzed about with some jokes about Hillary Clinton being in town, and messed around with something on the subject of that pig getting back home, but our hearts just weren't in it. The truth is, in the wake of yesterday's news about the shootings in San Bernardino and Savannah, and the fact that there have literally been more mass shootings in this country this year than there have been days, nothing seemed funny. We're dismayed, and confused, and not all that interested in snark just now.

Our nation is sick, and we just don't think the mirth and the sarcasm and the disgust are going to heal it.

We'll be back with the funny tomorrow. For now, hug your kids and toast your friends, and remind them that pointing a gun at an innocent person and pulling the trigger is nothing more than the sad, tragic final act of a person with so little left to lose they need to steal someone else's life to give theirs any sort of meaning.
