Just when you thought you were out [of Tuesday], they pull you back in [to Tuesday].
A Hernando County commissioner was voted out of his position as vice chair yesterday after being arrested on prostitution charges last week. The commission also decided to send Governor Scott a letter requesting that he remove the man from the commission completely if he doesn't resign or retire voluntarily. Who knew offering complete strangers money to come to your house and have sex with you could have a downside?
Speaking of Hernando County authority figures getting called out for doing dumb things, the superintendent who fired all those teachers from that elementary school on April 13 got an earful from the public at last night's School Board meeting. Looks like they decided to — *puts on sunglasses* — teach her a lesson. (Cue The Who.)
Three artists were selected to create art for the approach to the new St. Pete Pier. It was not revealed who would get the contract to build the walls on which the artists' murals would be — what? They're not painting murals? What madness is this?
And finally, the Polk County School Board approved a new "safety guardian" plan calling for the hiring of 90 armed and uniformed non-police officers to patrol the county's elementary schools. Each non-police officer would receive 144 hours of training from the cops, including 80 hours of firearms training. That's two work weeks. This should end well, and by "well" I mean "in tragedy."
