Good morning. Happy Surprise Tropical Storm Day! Your commute is absolutely screwed, so relax with a coffee and let's kill a little bit of time looking back over some recent, only slightly drier days.
FRIDAY, JULY 28:
File under "shocking turns of events no one anywhere could've seen coming (sarcastic version)" — the Tampa Bay Times "recommended" Rick Baker in St. Pete's mayoral race. Subtle hints that this was coming arguably might've appeared in, oh, every story the paper's run on Kriseman since May.
Florida's secretary of state turned over state voter rolls to President Trump's bullshit election-fraud commission despite an ongoing lawsuit to block the request. Get ready to be tweeted at directly, Florida Democrats. "@imwithher72 still lives in a Tallahassee house owned by a parent. SAD!"
SATURDAY, JULY 29:
A 45-year-old man was arrested for stalking Underworld franchise star and unfortunate Van Helsing participant Kate Beckinsale at Tampa Bay Comic Con. The story says the man "has a history of following [her] to public events across the country." Yeah. Imagine somebody of Kate Beckinsale's profile being unable to prevent a guy from harassing her. Then imagine how an 18-year-old college student in a new town feels trying to convince strangers that the guy menacing her on campus isn't just a boy being a boy.
SUNDAY, JULY 30:
And finally, a Sarasota premiere party for the horrifying new MTV series Siesta Key scheduled for Monday night was canceled amid plans of protests and death threats aimed at one of the show's stars. Interestingly, the protests were inspired by the rumor that the guy has connections to at least one person seen in last week's gross shark-torturing video, and not just because, you know, he's one of the stars of Siesta Key.
