Billionaire Palm Beach real estate mogul Jeff Greene joined the crowd of Democrats vying for the Florida Governor's Mansion, filing paperwork on Friday.
Greene, who invested millions into a losing 2010 Senate bid, is a one-time Republican who ran for Congress as a member of that party back in '82, and had some nice things to say about the GOP as recently as the 2016 presidential election. He's not yet made a statement, but previous quotes the candidate made during interviews while considering a run for the office seem to indicate he thinks his financial acumen and knowledge of the state's economy make him a qualified candidate.
Of course, he also said he's willing to dump millions of his personal fortune into the election and "spend whatever it would take to get me over the top."
It might take quite a bit to get Greene caught up to the rest of the Democratic pack, with just a few months remaining to campaign and other established candidates doubling down on their own name recognition — like Gwen Graham, who just this morning announced her first major TV ad buy, a $1 million campaign aimed at the Tampa and Orlando markets.
