Logan Ryan, a former two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, and his wife Ashley have joined St. Pete’s Friends of Strays in fostering four abandoned kittens.

The kittens, found orphaned under a bridge in Largo, have been named Apple Jack, Cocoa Puff, Lucky Charm and Fruity Pebble by the Ryan’s two kids.

Not new to animal care, the couple founded the Ryan Animal Rescue Foundation in 2017 to partner with animal welfare programs and promote adoption and educational opportunities. This sprouted from Ryan’s Monthy Rescue, through which Logan Ryan posts a photo of an adoptable animal in hopes of finding them a home.

“Logan and Ashley have used their platform to do some amazing work for the animal welfare world and we are thrilled to have them volunteering their time as foster parents for Friends of Strays,” said Friends of Strays CEO Dara Eckart in a press release.

“Jack, Puff, Lucky, and Pebble were understandably nervous and timid when they first entered into our care, but the entire Ryan family has done an incredible job caring for them, socializing them, and building their confidence so they can transition seamlessly into their forever homes. Friends of Strays is very grateful to have them on our team.”

As St. Pete’s oldest no-kill animal shelter, Friends of Strays implements several pet retention and humane pet ownership educational programs in addition to connecting rescued pets with homes.

Apple Jack, Cocoa Puff, Lucky Charm and Fruity Pebble will be available for adoption in late August to early September, according to Friends of Strays. In an attempt to increase safety during the pandemic, the shelter is conducting adoptions by appointment only. During the month of August, as part of Friends of Strays’ Felines for Frontliners campaign, all cat and kitten adoption fees will be waived for essential workers.
