A WFLA-TV reporter took to Twitter Thursday to thank a viewer for suggesting she consult a professional about a lump on her neck, which turned out to be undiagnosed cancer.

“Hi, just saw your news report,” the viewer wrote in an email to reporter Victoria Price. “What concerned me is the lump on your neck. Please have your thyroid checked. Reminds me of my neck. Mine turned out to be cancer. Take care of yourself.”

Price said her own personal health was the farthest thing from her mind amid pandemic reporting and a never-ending news cycle.

“A bit of ~personal news~ to share,” she wrote on Twitter. “Turns out, I have cancer. And I owe it to one of our wonderful @WFLA viewers for bringing it to my attention. I’ll be off work for a bit after tomorrow, but I’ll see y’all soon.”

Price said if the viewer had never reached out, she would have never consulted a doctor and the cancer would have spread. She said she will be undergoing surgery Monday to have the tumor, her thyroid and some nearby lymph nodes removed.

“Doctor says it's spreading, but not too much, and we’re hopeful this will be my first and last procedure,” Price said.
