The cities were chosen based on multiple factors, some of which are the percentage of LGBTQ population in the area, LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce presence, and the number of gay-friendly senior communities, as well as local and state legislation protecting the LGBTQ community.
Here’s why Tampa capped off the top ten:
The LGBTQ population in Tampa is estimated to be just over 6% compared to the senior population of the city being just over 12%.
Our diverse, inclusive, senior-dense city has been a “welcoming place for LGBTQ seniors for years.”
Lower cost of living, anti-discrimination ordinances and a ban on conversion therapy within the last decade show Tampa’s strides toward equality.
Tampa’s LGBTQ groups and events are strong in numbers, including Equality Florida, Tampa Pride, Vista Tampa LGBT, Tampa Bay International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and Tampa LGBT Meetup Groups.
With the senior population of people aged 65 and older expected to double by 2050, Tampa will be waiting with open arms to welcome them.
