Ashley Strunk of the Toni & Guy Salon in International Plaza Mall got in contact with Matter of Trust (www.matteroftrust.org), the non-profit organization behind the hair mats/booms, and she and her salon are collecting hair and nylons "indefinitely as of yet, until we all know how bad this oil spill is going to become and to make sure we'll have a surplus for Tampa [if need be]," she says.
The hair and nylons collected will be sent off to a local distribution center to aid in cleanup efforts in the Gulf. If worse comes to worse and the oil starts to head this way, Ashley stated, "then our salon team will simply put the boons together ourselves and go have a 'Save the Beach' party. We're playing that part of it by ear daily and watching the migration of the oil spill."
"Any type of hair is appreciated", Toni & Guy Salon manager DJ Cacciatore told me, "even if it's hair donated from a dog groomer." If any local pet groomers want to get involved to donate hair trimmings, DJ suggests they contact Matter of Trust first to see if the animal hair needs to be kept separate from the human hair when sending it in.
Hmm...any hair? Gents, maybe this means you can donate all that leftover hair after "manscaping".
