Happy Veterans Day to everyone out there.  Lots of news to cover today.

Speaking of veterans, one reason why this national holiday has certainly acquired more heft over the past decade is simply the number of veteran and current members of the military that exist in the U.S., what with the two wars continuing to show no signs of ending anytime soon.  That's the big story today internationally, where Obama administration officials are coming clean that it will be at least four more years before we see any serious withdrawals from Afghanistan.

In Tampa yesterday, a two hour discussion regarding a potential panhandling ordinance brought out strong statements from those condemning beggars on Tampa streets, as well as passionate criticisms of the ad hoc committee for not even understanding the plight of the homeless.  Read our version of what went down here.

Former Tampa Congressman Jim Davis for the first time this year admitted he's seriously considering a run for the mayor of Tampa next year.

And Alan Clendenin, a Hillsborough County Democrat whose name has been thrown into the mix of possible candidates to succeed Karen Thurman as Democratic Party state chair, tells CL today that he believed  he was a leading candidate for the position, but has backed away and will support Rod Smith for the gig, if the recent Lieutenant Governor candidate decides he wants to pursue the gig.
