17Pinellas County Historical Society welcomes journalist/author Stan Zimmerman, who presents a free program based on his new book, A History of Smuggling in Florida: Rumrunners and Cocaine Cowboys. A book sale and signing follows. 7 p.m., Heritage Village, Largo.
18SPCA-Tampa Bay honors National Homeless Animals Day with a Meet the Breeds event. Visitors learn about weimaraners, poodles, terriers, setters, pugs and other pure-breeds, and are provided with the opportunity to adopt a "pre-owned" purebred by area animal rescue groups. Noon-5 p.m., Largo.
