10 Florida hotels where you can spend this Fourth of July in style

Maybe you're tired of watching the fireworks from Clearwater Beach, or maybe your idea of a party isn't the slog home from St. Pete Beach at 10:30 p.m. Or maybe — just maybe — you're up for a road trip. Make a day of it, or make a night of it. Here are a few hotels that break out of the (spectacular, but still) ordinary Tampa Bay fireworks extravaganzas. Most of them offer you an option that means you don't have to leave the resort, so take your pick! And no worries — from the super-casual buddy-rooms to the $3k cabanas, there's something for everyone. Now, go pack your swimsuit.

Lido Beach Resort
There's a tiki bar. There's an adults-only pool. There's the beach right there. Eat on the sand — on a sand-sculpture table. There's a sunset, of course, because Florida, and also, we're pretty sure you can see the fireworks from the hotel. ilidobeachresort.com.

If you bleed orange or blue, head to the AC Hotel Gainesville, right by The Swamp and definitely more luxe than a UF dorm room. Think: rooftop pool, swanky rooms and, on the Fourth, “The Largest Small Town Fireworks Display in America” in Alacahua, at the Hal Brady Recreation Complex, where you can bungee jump, listen to live music (Gainesville, we've heard, has a decent music history) or head down a water slide. achotelgainesville.com.

Art Ovation Hotel
Just over the Sunshine Skyway is a place where you can watch the fireworks from the hotel's rooftop bar: Art Ovation Hotel in Sarasota, an art-themed boutique hotel (because you really don't see a whole lotta art-themed Red Roof Inns, amirite?) Florida’s brand new and only art-focused boutique hotel. On the Fourth of July, though that rooftop closes to all but a select few. What's so special about it? Well, for one, there's mermaids in the pool, and — because it's not enough to have mermaids swimming in the damn pool — they'll be handing out sugar cane-spiced rum. There's also a taco station, a margarita station (it's like an omelet station at brunch, only, you know, with tequila) and a simulcast of the New York fireworks display. It's free for guests and $50 for all others. Want a cabana? You can get one — for $3,000. artovationhotel.com.

Hyatt Centric South Beach
Lyft is your friend in South Beach: Leave the car at the hotel and head to the Miami Beach Fire, a fest that has food trucks and fireworks, sure, but hey, it's South beach, so there's yoga, too. Back at Hyatt Centric South Beach, continuing celebrating as you gaza at the Miami skyline at DECK Sixteen while sipping locally-made sangria. The hotel, in the midst of everything, is part of historic Collins Avenue. southbeachmiami.centric.hyatt.com.

Jupiter Beach
In Jupiter Beach, there's only one oceanfront hotel, and it's nestled between buff-colored sand dunes. Not so far away from the Jupiter Beach Resort is the downtown celebration — Downtown Abacoa’s 4th of July Block Party. Over at Roger Dean Stadium’s Mega Bash, you can watch the Palm Beach Cardinals play against the Daytona Tortugas (we love that name) — and there's fireworks post-game. JupiterBeachResort.com.

Playa Largo Resort & Spa
Key Largo is doing quite nicely post-Irma, thank you, but it'd be great to have some infusion of cash into the local economy. At the Playa Largo Resort & Spa you're only seven miles for fireworks ground zero, but trust us, don't brave the traffic. Get close to the water instead — get a private cabana near the pool, and treat yo'self to a mimosa kit, bottle of Ketel One, peel and eat shrimp, or other tasty tidbits. Still say nothing compares to fireworks? Book a room in The Hammocks, 10 colorful, tropical-splashed bungalows and a three-bedroom beach house. From there, you're closest. Fireworks start a little later in the Florida Keys, too — 10 p.m. playalargoresort.com.

Not Your Average Hotel
It's an adults-only hotel that brags on its budget-friendly pricing, a 4:20 happy hour and free breakfast (eggs are the perfect hangover cure) before you start the long drive home — or maybe kick off a long weekend in the Florida Keys. NYAH has rooms that sleep six people with no extra fees, so it's the best way to party on near Duval Street.

The Perry
Key West can get crazy — but The Perry Key West at Stock Island Marina isn't in Key West; it's just north of it on Stock Island. It's a new hotel that's made to look old, and the rooms are all waterfront. The hotel has a shuttle to Duval Street, where you can... well, we all know what happens on Duval (hint: it rhymes with trawl). Fireworks viewing is best at Smathers Beach or along the White Street Pier, but you'll probs want to get there early for those seats. Which is OK; you can take in the 6th annual Key Lime Pest Fest along the way. perrykeywest.com.

Stanton South Beach
At Stanton South Beach, watch the fireworks from your balcony. This hotel has direct beach access, so once you park your car, you're done. Fireworks make you jittery? Yeah, us, too — there's an ocean-inspired spa (plus the ocean itself is right there). stantonsobe.com.

W Fort Lauderdale Hotel
Here's your front-row seat — seriously, this is the best seat in the house. They're having an all-day party, too — think live music, beach games, contests and basic beach fun. We're hoping they offer a round of Beach Blanket Bingo.
