NOT MY PARTY
I'm not trying to be mean, but I'm really wondering if we saw the same show ("Beach Blanket Bullseye," review of Gypsy Productions' Psycho Beach Party, by Mark Leib, Aug. 30-Sept. 5). To begin with, I think your writing style is pretentious and a bit over the top. In the first five paragraphs you barely even mention the play itself. I also completely disagree with your actor commentary. For example, the actress who played Berdine, in my opinion, was not only talented but also amazingly funny. Where you liked Provolone, I found him to be way too queeny and flamboyant. Now perhaps you never saw the actual movie, but Provolone and Yo-Yo are supposed to be closeted, not out-of-costume drag queens. I really enjoyed the play; however, I think your review is seen through rose-colored glasses, or your ass, whichever version you prefer. You neglected to even mention the line stumbling, and some obvious technical glitches. I really think you need to consider looking for a new profession, perhaps in designing the SATs, since you are so fond of those 10-dollar words.

MAN ON THE RUN
What a riot! I can relate to this article (Life Sentences, "The Gypsy Life," by Scott Harrell, Aug. 30-Sept. 5) and died laughing out loud. I, too, began my Tampa experience in UTA [University Townhouse Apartments], and it mended me for the many great things (places and people) to come. I have enjoyed this city, and it has prepared me for the future of bigger and better places to move (Chicago in Jan. '07). Wherever life takes me, it was the foundation of the Bay area that I have learned from.

I remember seeing Jeff Beck (Planet Picks, "Guitar Superstar," by Eric Snider, Aug. 30-Sept.5) in California in the '70s! WOW! This guy is very talented. My ticket was $6.50 then. Now it's $100. He is worth it!

CAN'T BUY LOVE
Being a parent myself, there is truly nobody richer than a parent sharing an unforgettable experience with their child (Moodswings, "We're Rich!" by Hollis Gillespie, Aug. 23-29). I know. I had one such rich moment just a few days ago when my 11-year-old daughter spontaneously came up to me as we were watching dancing on stage at an Asian Cultural Festival, put her arm around me and said she loved me. I gave her a big hug, told her I loved her, too, and I KNEW I was the richest woman there or anywhere, for that matter. You go, Hollis! You rock!

HIP TO YIP-YIP
Yip-Yip played an amazing show last Saturday at the Orpheum (Music, "Yip-Yip, Hurray!" by Scott Harrell, Aug. 23-29). There was no shortage of confused faces in the crowd of those who have never seen Yip-Yip before.
