At last, it looks like American Social Bar & Kitchen will open to Tampa's Harbour Island over the summer. The upscale sports bar and restaurant from restaurateurs Rick Mijares and Paul Greenberg was originally scheduled to debut in August 2016 in The Pointe at 601 S. Harbour Island Blvd., and then before the end of spring. But, now rounding the corner on construction, the South Florida transplant anticipates a grand opening in late June or early July.

Good thing, too, considering AmSo offers fit-for-summer items like barbecue pork belly sliders and craft beer.

"We have built out American Social Tampa to be the flagship location in our portfolio of other spectacular locations in Miami and Fort Lauderdale," said co-founder Mijares in a statement.

The Harbour Island bar-restaurant's 443-seat bayfront property, walking distance from downtown Tampa destinations like Amalie Arena, has 9,100 square feet of space inside, and its exterior, which includes spacious patio dining, weighs in at 5,000 square feet. Laurie Mijares is spearheading the Americana-style interior design, and other highlights include four full bars; a self-serve, six-tap communal beer wall; two private booths with four self-serve draft lines; and a raw bar.

Weekly brunch, lunch and dinner are planned, alongside the hiring of 120 new team members. As the third location for Mijares and Greenberg (Fort Lauderdale is home to the original, while the second outpost is in Miami), AmSo Tampa is set to offer a large selection of local and national beers, happy hours and crowd-pleasing dishes think mac and cheese, fried shrimp tacos, buffalo chicken flatbreads and bread pudding.
