A Tampa promoter has canceled a concert featuring Athens indie-rock band Five Eight. Citing the local rise in coronavirus cases, Keith Ulrey announced today that the Aug. 6 gig—where his own band Pohgoh was supposed to open at Crowbar—is off.

“After careful consideration and much conversation, both bands have collectively agreed to cancel this show due to the rising numbers of covid cases in the state…,” Ulrey wrote, adding that the venue understands.

Ulrey hopes that one day Five Eight can come “back down to rock properly and safely.”

The Crowbar show was the first Tampa Bay area performance since 2019 for both bands. All tickets for the show will be refunded as soon as possible.

As the promoter and a member of Pohgoh, I am truly bummed, but… it's just a show,” Ulrey added.

ICYMI, Florida reported 16,038 new COVID-19 cases to the federal government on Tuesday, the highest number of new cases since Jan. 15, federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data show.

This total marks the seventh consecutive day Florida reported more than 12,000 new cases. The CDC also issued new guidance advising fully vaccinated people to wear masks inside public places.

Wear masks and get vaxxed y’all, because your refusal to do so is why we can’t have nice things.
