In the 1970s, country band Lavender Country was always overshadowed by the likes of Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Conway Twitty. Though the group’s debut eponymous album—famously centered around homosexuality—is nothing short of a masterpiece, it was released in a less tolerant, much more conservative time.

Now, almost 50 years later, original frontman Patrick Haggerty and Lavender Country circa 2022 are heading out on tour to promote the proper release of its 2019 comeback—and sophomore album, Blackberry Rose.
The tour includes a stop at Tampa’s Hooch and Hive on Thursday, March 24. Tickets to see Lavender Country’s “The Roundup Tour” are now on sale for $15.

Co-slaying with these queens will be bluegrass singer-songwriter Lizzie No, singer-songwriter and frequent visitor to Tampa Bay Austin Lucas, and indigenous musician and activist Mali Obomsawin, among others.

To celebrate, Lavender Country released a new single, “Stand On Your Man,” a parody of sorts, for Tammy Wynette’s country classic, with updated lyrics by Haggerty and bandmate Lamar Van Dyke (lead vocals by Nikki Grossman).
