Music fans spend a lot of time looking at the stage, but there are scene champs who never get behind a microphone. Artist Theresa Crout is one such behind-the-scenes bedrock supporter of the Bay.

This weekend, one of her favorite bands, Americana outfit Have Gun, Will Travel (HGWT)—which was actually immortalized in VooDood form in 2019—plays in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Crout’s VooDood project where she creates a themed collection of voodoo dolls (2023’s theme is heroes).

More than 500 ‘Doods have been made all time; this is the only chance to see all of them under one roof in the company of the tribe of followers Crout has amassed along the way.

“I think people identify with this voodoo doll character because it can take so many forms. Also the idea of this soft creature thriving in spite of pins being stuck into it is appealing. Voodoo dolls have a sinister reputation, but these guys have a sense of humor, and each one has its own story” Crout told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay.

“I always give the person who names a piece the first opportunity to buy it, and people tend to feel connected with the pieces that they have named. I always say that I make the pieces, but the people who name them breathe life into them.”

Tickets to the VooDood’s 10th anniversary wrap party with Have Gun, Will Travel at Hooch and Hive in Tampa are still available for $10.
