Chef Sean Sherman is a leader in the movement to revitalize Native American cuisine, and his book The Sioux Chef’s Indigenous Kitchen earned a 2018 James Beard Leadership Award. The 45-year-old’s afternoon cooking class is already sold-out, but spots remain for Sherman’s Saturday morning discussion — "The (R)evolution of Indigenous Food Systems of North America” — and book signing.
Sherman grew up Oglala Lakota and foraged for food from an early age before starting in the restaurant business as a dishwasher when he turned 13. He was an executive chef by 27 years old and burnt out by 29, but some soul-searching with indigenous Huichol people led him to his journey to reclaim his own food heritage.
