USF's art department is thinking outside the (idiot) box: the Contemporary Art Museum airs Broadcast, a collection of video-projection installations and interactive broadcasts that explores the role of artists since the late 1960s, who have "engaged in official channels of broadcast television and radio." Some of the thirteen participating artists (among them Dara Birnbaum, Doug Hall, neurotransmitter and Siebren Versteeg) chose to create their own footage, inserting themselves into the medium to question the rules of what we watch; others chose to cut up and manipulate existing film stock in an homage to the art form that has mesmerized the world since its introduction to the mainstream five-plus decades ago. Opening reception 7-9 p.m. Fri., June 4, runs through Aug. 7, USF Contemporary Art Museum, 4202 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa, ira.usf.edu. —Franki Weddington
