Some fringe-athletics trends come and go, but roller derby is, apparently, forever. Not that we’re complaining — working out while working out one’s aggressions on some folks who signed up for the same fun and bruises is a win-win in our book. There’s an open call for this weekend’s FeBRUISEary bout, courtesy of Deadly Rival Roller Derby, and it’s being held at St. Pete’s The Slayground, home of the state’s only banked track, which ups the ante considerably in terms of speed, excitement and the potential for some serious pile-ups. If you haven’t yet witnessed Florida roller derby in all its flailing glory, we highly recommend making this bout your first.
