Man landing on the moon. The Cubs winning the World Series. The Berlin Wall falling. All of those events pale in comparison to what just took place Wednesday night.

The greatest kicker in Buccaneer history—possibly in the history of the world—Ryan Succop, re-signed with the Bucs on a three-year deal worth $6.25 million guaranteed, $12 million total.

Sure, getting Gronk, Shaq Barrett, Lavonte David and Chris Godwin back was important, but having Ryan Succop returning to continue to nail kicks from all over the field? That’s the golden ticket, baby.

Write it up. The Bucs are repeating as Super Bowl champs, and it’s all because of this move, retaining Ryan Succop.

Jokes aside, and as over exaggerated as my love for Succop may seem, if you’re reading this as a Bucs fan, you understand how bad the kicking has been for the Bucs the past decade.

Every year before Succop’s arrival it seemed like the Bucs lost at least two or three games because of poor kicking. No more. Succop fixed those problems last year, as he rose to every occasion. He ranked ninth in the NFL in field goal percentage, and he was fifth in extra points made.

It’s yet another thing the Bucs won’t have to worry about.

LFG.
