If you’ve ever imagined just living out the rest of your days making whirligigs to sell on the arts-and-crafts show circuit, then you might want to be at the University of Tampa on Friday when the school’s film, animation and new media program presents the Florida premiere of a documentary about an underground, Tuscaloosa-based arts collective, Raudelunas, and one entertainer and musician who was often described as “Frank Sinatra on PCP” or “the Dada Duke Ellington.”
Directed by Skizz Cyzyk, Icepick to the Moon explores the weird life of Rev. Fred Lane, who was a pantsless “strip-mine crooner” that made his way through life by singing gonzo American pop to anyone who’d listen. You can tune in and rub elbows with Cyzyk (pictured) by showing up to UT’s Cass Building of Communication (CCB) before 8:30 p.m.
Fri. March 29. University of Tampa, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa. 8:30 p.m. fredlanedoc.com.
