There’s a plethora of famous dead people with Tampa connections, and Best of the Bay-winning bicycle tour History Bike Tampa wants to show some to riders on Nov. 7 when the group returns for its first ride back since COVID-19 shutdowns impacted every part of our lives.

“Florida is well known for its collection of ‘Florida man…’ news reports but we want to get down to Tampa's own unique take on that,” organizers wrote on social media. “Drunken politicians, axe murders, grave robbers, pirate legends and more help make up the things that make Tampa both strange and somewhat spooky.”

The “Strange and Spooky Tampa” tour, per usual, kicks off at 10 a.m. at Kahwa Coffee in downtown Tampa (arrive at the address, 808 N. Tampa St. at 9:30 a.m. when registration starts), but there is a caveat this time around. Only 40 rides will be allowed, and there will be no walk-up registration.

Reservations for the approximately two-hour ride go live on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. via Eventbrite, and you must pre-register to ride. What’s more is that helmets are required along with face masks during riding and at stops.

“If you need to take a mask break please keep 6 feet distance between you and other riders,” organizers added. “Please self-check before the day of the ride, if you're feeling sick please do not attend. If you have been around anyone with a confirmed Covid-19 result please stay home.”
