The third installment of the St. Pete Soul Revue takes place this Friday at The Local 662 in Downtown St. Pete.
Founded by local musician and multimedia marketing freelancer Nick Hinckley, the event features old-school and modern soul and funk. Playing hits like "Sign, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours," "September" and "Higher Ground" are: Brian "B" Byrd on drums; Ozanda Gray on keys and vocals; Nick Hinckley on bass and vocals; John Holt on lead guitar and vocals; and Frankie "J" Thompson on trombone (pictured left).
With the musicians' combined years of experience, as well as their diverse musical backgrounds, the show is bound to be funky.
Thompson played horn and wrote music for The Bar-Kays for 15 years, and has jammed with greats like Miles Davis, Joe Walsh, Ron Woods, Narada Michael Walden, Clarence Clemons and a few of George Clintons P-Funk All Stars.
Gray (pictured right) is a vocal coach, and was the musical director for the 2010 Langston Hughes' Black Nativity that showed at The Palladium in St. Pete.
Hinckley (pictured left with Holt, photo by Scott Krebs) formerly played in progressive rock band Once We Were King. Holt is the founder of funk/soul/R&B band Quality Time — Hinckley is also a member — and plays for local Top 40 dance and rock band, Anchor Atlantic.
Emceeing for the night is spoken word veteran Brian Duncan of the IV Poets.
So if you feel like dancing and grooving this Friday, head to The Local 662. Oh yeah, the drink specials: $3 Long Islands and $3 Hennessy.
