If you're like me, you enjoy visiting down south a ways every now and then, but lack the requisite motivation to make the drive as often as you'd like.
Here's a little sumpin' sumpin to spur you on: Sarasota's Contemporary Artist Collective, aka SARTQ, will present its Sixth Annual Print Party at the HuB. The newly reformed local artist collective SARTQ offers a great primer on SARTQ, its new members, mission, while raising funds for future exhibitions.
If you've ever been at an art party with live printing, you know how fascinating and special it is to watch. Here's an event that allows that experience the wonderfully tactile artform a dozen times over. SARTQ's fifth print party in Sept. of 2011 drew nearly 1,000 people who brought shirts, skirts, placemats and other items to be screened live by the artists.
Also, as in previous years, the artists (four previous members and 11 new members) have created an original design for the event.
The event takes place from 5 to 11 p.m. on Sat., March 21, at 1680 Fruitville Rd., Sarasota. Free admission ($5 per print). Visit for sartq.org or facebook.com/sartq for more information on the artists and collective.
