After closing to in-person shows at the onset of the pandemic, Straz Center is ready to bring Tony Award-winning Broadway back to downtown Tampa.
On Friday, the nonprofit performing arts center announced the return of its Broadway series, which kicks off on Oct. 26 with six nights of musical comedy “Tootsie.” The series continues in December with “Cats” before taking a break until 2021 when it welcomes a Donna Summer musical, “The Prom,” Disney’s “Frozen,” “My Fair Lady,” “The Band’s Visit” and “Pretty Woman.”
Straz Center has consistently been a leader in safe event-going during the pandemic, but it’s unclear what seating arrangements will look like come October.
“ …measures which are in place now could look very different in the fall,” Straz Center wrote in a press release. “We will always consult with our partners at Tampa General as we develop our health protocols, and, if necessary, continue implementing safety measures for staff and guests like health screening, temperature checks and mask-wearing.”
Staz Center’s season ticket holders are set to receive notices next week and will have until May 28 to renew, but sign ups to become season ticket holders are open. Prices for the eight-show season package range from $215-$739.05, and more information is available via strazcenter.org.
