Tampa Bay artists to battle during three-day ‘Secret Walls’ competition at Florida State Fair

More than 11 Tampa Bay locals join Ghostbeard from Detroit for the exhibition.

Everyone’s watching the Big Game on Sunday, what if art was a spectator sport like football? An event happening Thursday-Saturday gives a chance to find out.

Imagine two teams of artists competing on stage to paint a wall-sized canvas in under 90 minutes, their fans cheering them on. That’s Secret Walls.

Inspired by B-Boy battles, Secret Walls founder Terry Guy started hosting art battles in East London bars and warehouses in 2006. Since then, the live arts and entertainment company, now headquartered in Los Angeles has hosted paint and NFT battles in more than 50 countries around the world.

This weekend, thanks to a collaboration with Tampa Walls, Secret Walls comes to the Florida State Fair for three nights in a row.
More than 11 Tampa Bay locals join Ghostbeard from Detroit in this Tampa edition of Secret Walls, including Sebastian Coolidge, Jujmo, Starve, Ryan Gallagher, Kris Markovich, Ania Amador, IZA The Artist, Hinson, and The Artist Jones. Adding to the show, Ace of Wands plays with fire while Sponatola and Wally Rios spin tunes.

Secret Walls is one of three visual art attractions at this year’s Florida State Fair, which includes chalk art demonstrations opening weekend and the Florida Wildlife Corridor’s “You Are Here” exhibit, featuring work by eight Florida conservation photographers.

Florida State Fair’s Secret Walls show happening Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 8-10 at the Florida State Fairgrounds is included in admission. UPDATED: 022/9/24 5:45 p.,m. Updated to include Ghostbeard from Detroit.
