Even without the ever-changing hip-hop lyrics on the sign, sloth mural or funky faux-rustic patio decor, HBS would still be the best new place on Central to kill an afternoon, what with the friendly and knowledgeable staff, dogs-welcome policy, and insane beer and wine selection and prices — you can spend hours trying different singles and bottles on-site, or grab a mix to go. But it’s those little details (and a small but killer menu, including this writer’s favorite pimento cheese in the Bay) that make it a one-of-a-kind home away from home for locals, and a favorite place to bring folks from across the bridge or the country. —SH
