It makes sense that Murs’ Crowbar show is where Bay area fans of real hip-hop could get an eclectic slice of what makes the community’s rap scene so unique.
Local openers Jon Ditty, BC and Louis Junior all play distinctly different styles, which should please fans of Murs who’ve been drawn to to the underground phenom ever since he started to make waves with his first group, 3 Melancholy Gypsies. The 41-year-old has released eight solo albums since then, including his deeply personal 2018 outing Strange Journey Into The Unimaginable where he reflects on divorce and the tragic loss of his newborn son. Substantive. high-quality hip-hop exists, and Murs is living proof. Ol’ Dirty Sundays happens on the Crowbar patio afterwards.
Murs w/Locksmith/Cojo/BC/Jon Ditty/Louis Junior. Sun. May 12. 7 p.m. $12-$15. Crowbar, Ybor City. aestheticized.com.
