RX Bandits w/And So I Watch You From Afar Drive-Thru Records, which enjoyed a short stint as the gold standard for punk and ska, released …And the Battle Begun a decade ago. To celebrate, RX Bandits (the band that composed the album) arrive in St. Pete to celebrate the release, and where a spot on the Drive-Thru roster may have lumped the Orange County, California outfit into a certain sound, frontman Matt Embree made sure that his band remained progressive by exploring sounds, textures and sound structures which belied what most of the other acts in the genre were safely executing at the time. Kim Richey It’s been almost three decades since Ohio songwriter Kim Richey put roots down in Nashville, and the bold move has paid off. The 59-year-old arrives at Straz Center’s intimate Jaeb Theater with an extensive resume that’s found her providing vocals for the likes of Jason Isbell, Martina McBride, Ryan Adams and even William Shatner. United States Marine Band “The President’s Own” concert band is celebrating the 125th anniversary of touring by performing a free evening show at the Straz Center’s Morsani Hall where they’ll showcase new works for wind ensemble, traditional material and orchestral transcriptions all built around the patriotic marches made famous by their 17th director John Philip Sousa. Birthday Club w/Pajamas/Sad Shibas After making waves at SXSW, CMJ and even the X-Games, Houston-based psych-pop outfit Birthday Club is breaking out of the Lone Star state as part of an eight week tour in support of a new easy-going, highly-danceable new EP appropriately titled Lighten Up.
