✔️ Coheed and Cambria w/Taking Back Sunday/Story So Far All the Unheavenly Creatures will be at the old Gary amphitheatre on Saturday, and that’s because Coheed and Cambria will be there supporting its eighth full-length, which represents the band’s return to concept albums. The 15-track, 78-minute effort is the New York prog-rock outfit’s first batch of new music since 2015’s The Color Before the Sun, and while Creatures’ title-track may be a little more power-pop than Coheed fans are used to, the retro synth has us pumped for the show and a forthcoming Vaxis – Act 1: The Unheavenly Creatures deluxe box complete with a novella written by Coheed frontman Claudio Sanchez and his wife, Chondra Echert. Taking Back Sunday opens this mega alt-rock throwback bill in support of its latest, Tidal Wave, which finds frontman Adam Lazzara & Co. working hints of Americana and electronica into the post-punk and nu-metal that made the band famous back in the early aughts. GlokkNine Some critics have called GlokkNine the next Kodak Black (Mr. Black is Florida’s most popular Spotify artist, according to a recent study). The Orlando mumble-rapper has even inspired taste-making magazine The FADER to walk back its initial assessment of him (“I sort of wrote off GlokkNine at first as a Kodak imitator but it’s become clear that he’s much more,” Ben Dandridge-Lemco admitted in his June “10 Best New Rap Songs” post). We’ll find out if the hype is real this weekend when the Glokk-ster brings a hit single (“Crayola,” approaching 3 million YouTube views) and his latest tune (“I Don’t Need No Help”) to the Jannus courtyard. Visit cltampa.com/music to read an SMS-based Q&A that is truly a sign-o-the-times. (Jannus Live, St. Petersburg) INFO

✔️ Emo Night Tampa w/Snacking/Crate Bros. Emo Night Tampa has settled into its new home, and on Saturday the monthly party’s founders — Crate Bros. — will invite one of Tampa Bay’s best emo bands, Snacking, to play a set in between their spinning classics from the genre’s second and third waves. Check out this month’s custom artwork — where Tampa designer 3lb God remixed the art for The Promise Ring’s 1997 sophomore LP, Nothing Feels Good — by clicking here. (The Bricks, Ybor City) INFO

PROUD TO BE EMERICAN
American Football, Rainer Maria's Caithlin De Marrais will make appearances at Emo Night Tampa

The Subpars w/Aerwave/Yatuzi/Fern Frame We can appreciate The Subpars’ commitment to the band’s aesthetic (a live video of the band is titled, “Well, that sucks man. That really sucks,” and the Orlando band says it blends all genres into one — “terrible”). We can also appreciate how the group is stopping into St. Pete alongside a new rock band (Aerwave) and the electronic stylings of Steve Jones, who is releasing eclectic electro sounds under the Yatuzi moniker. Tampa weirdo/fuzz-folk band Fern Frame (listen to its May 2018 record, May All The Fascists Burn In Hell) rounds things out. (Cage Brewing, St. Petersburg) INFO

✔️ Erasure Three decades and 25 million albums ago, not a lot was known about this band, Erasure, which molted out of an Andy Bell project called Void. Bell — who grew up adoring Elvis, gospel, the Motown catalog and Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound — had always taken to singing, but no one would ever predict that he and bandmate Vince Clarke would go on to change the landscape of popular dance music. On Saturday, the 54-year-old Bell and Clark, who turns 58 just days before the St. Petersburg show, will bring their 17th studio album (World Be Gone) to Mahaffey Theater, where biting lyrics (“We thought it would be good to reflect on the weird [expletive] that’s happening in the world right now,” Clarke recently said about songs like “Oh What A World”) meet choral harmonies and classic synth-pop earworms to great effect. Only loge, dress circle, balcony and a few box seats were available for this show at press time, so you might want to think about buying in advance. If you don’t have the dough, then check out an Erasure tribute show happening at Emerald Bar off Central Avenue. (Mahaffey Theater, St. Petersburg) INFO

A Flutist’s Tour de France The actual Tour de France starts on Saturday, but this afternoon exploration invites attendees to enjoy an eight-century spanning tour of French music and composers in this lecture and concer where you’ll learn about different time periods, composers and styles of music while listening to a variety of flutes. Dunedin Orange Festival w/Hot Rod Hornets/T-Bone Hamilton Band/Cadillac Cowboys/Jack & Josie If you’ve ever been to Dunedin, then you’ll realize that the tiny Florida town has a thing for oranges. This old-fashioned downtown festival is the culmination of that adoration, and it’ll feature a full day’s worth of Americana, blues and rockabilly that kicks off at noon and wraps at 9:30 p.m. More details available via dunedinorangefestival.com. (Edgewater Park, Dunedin) INFO

Tampa Zine Fest 6 w/Dylan Houser/Rutterkin/TTN It's DIY or die this Saturday when Tampa Zine Fest brings its sixth edition to east Tampa where more than 30 zine publishers, musicians, vendors and even Uncle Mince's World Famous Seitan (translation: vegan sandos) will be at Transitions buying, sharing and trading their wares. (Transitions Art Gallery at Skatepark of Tampa, Tampa) INFO

✔️ Dunedin Brewery 22nd Anniversary w/S.P.O.R.E. As if the oranges weren’t enough, Dunedin Brewery (the oldest microbrewery in Florida, according to propaganda) celebrates 22 solid trips around the sun with a Massachusetts noise-rock band (S.P.O.R.E.) and two special can releases — an apricot peach ale and DB’s 22nd Anniversary Pilsner. Music starts at 9 p.m., but the cans can be yours starting at 11 a.m. (Dunedin Brewery, Dunedin) INFO

✔️ K-Hand w/Michael Zucker/Austen van der Bleek Acacia Records founder Kelli Hand (aka K-Hand) has been making noise in the Motor City since the early '90s, and her earliest work is being unearthed by some house and techno DJs trying to stay ahead of the curve by reaching back into the classics. Despite her nickname (“The First Lady of Detroit”), she remains underrated. Finale Sessions label head Michael Zucker drops in from Orlando alongside one of his recording company’s signees, Austen van der Bleek, to open the show. Friends 4 Families ACLU Fundraiser w/King of Denmark/Radarmen/Old Vices/Scumbag Billionaires/Jeff Brawer/Will Quinlan/Band of Sorrows/Jeremy Gloff/Dan Padilla/Marc Ganancias Reading the front page headlines can make you feel hopeless. Here’s a reminder that there are still good people out there. A couple of handfuls of tried-and-true Tampa punks (plus deep-thinking Americana acts Will Quinlan and Band of Sorrows) have teamed up with Tampa music scene lifer Lauren Billington to throw a house show where proceeds will be donated to the ACLU, which is fighting to reunite families torn apart by President Dingus’ immigration policies. The address is secret, but you should support these bands if you see them on another bill another week. If you do make it out to the show, then bring ice (cubes, not that ICE), chairs and bug spray. (House Show, Tampa)

✔️ Art Nelson Fundraiser w/Uncle John’s Band/Come Back Alice/Ramblegrass/Boxcar Hollow/Applebutter Express/Steve Connelly & the Greater Good Art D. Nelson — longtime composer, songwriter and keyboardist with Tampa’s beloved Uncle John’s Band — needs an assist with his mounting medical expenses, so a shitload of his friends (including Bay area powerhouse producer Steve Connelly, who’s been a recipient of fundraisers like these in the past) are pitching in to throw one hell of a show underneath the Skipperdome. It kicks off early (3 p.m.) and the $15 you contribute will have one hell of a ripple effect. (Skipper’s Smokehouse, Tampa) INFO

Young MC and Rob Base Select dates on the nostalgia-driven I Love The 90s Tour feature Young MC and Rob Base alongside other legacy acts like Vanilla Ice and Salt-N-Pepa, but the closest the package comes to Tampa Bay is an August 11 date at the Miramar Amphitheater, which is 250 miles away. Might as well “Bust A Move” towards this postgame concert in Clearwater which features the two late-'80s hip-hop icons playing as part of the Threshers summer concert series.
