The House of I podcast has been a way for guitarist Daniel Caballero and drummer Elizabeth Piedrahita to get the word out on their own band, but it’s also been a nice conduit for candid conversations about Tampa Bay’s music scene.

One episode features former Market on 7th guardian Freddie Villa. Another enlightening chat with longtime Bay area promoter Keith Ulrey finds the long running co-honcho of Tampa indie imprint New Granada Records talking with Caballero and Piedrahita about a myriad of topics like the kind of shows he likes to go to.

“[There are shows] where it’s like, ‘Hey my band’s playing,’ and you’re like, ‘Cool, who you playing with?,’ and then your friend goes, ‘I don’t know, these three other bands they had a slot we could play,’ versus a show that was curated, put together by three or four bands who might be friends or bands who go together sonically, maybe there’s a meaning behind the show,” Ulrey said. “I tend to lean towards that… that may sound kind of shitty.”

Caballero and Piedrahita respond in their refreshingly sincere fashion, which is marked by a fascination with, and true appreciation for, the guest they have in front of them.

House of I gets to quit talking and play some music at a Saturday night no-cover dive bar show alongside one of Miami’s best bilingual fuzz-pop exports, Las Nubes (supporting a new album, TMVT, released on Friday — listen to it below), and a bluesy Tampa-based duo, Proud Miranda.
