Ever wonder what the Creative Loafing music team listens to on Mondays to get us through the day? Heres this weeks selections.
Lostboy! A.K.A. Jim Kerr, Lostboy! A.K.A. Jim Kerr (2010)
Brand new debut solo release from Simple Minds lead singer, Jim Kerr. Kerr decided to step away from the group and release his own album since hes experienced such a massive writing spurt of late. The results are mostly interesting some obvious Simple Minds-sounding stuff and some pretty experimental, primitive sounding stuff, too. It will require many repeat listens but so far it has intrigued me greatly.
Jeff The Public Good, A Varied Program of Stereo Dynamics For Your Wild Nights Along (due out June 8, 2010)
The new release from The Public Good featuring their signature quirky-pop sound mixed with sharp, intelligent lyrics.
Andrew Local Natives, Gorilla Manor (2010) and Drake, Thank Me Later (out June 15, 2010 on Young Money)
Local Natives sound like the lovechild between Band of Horses and My Morning Jacket with an affinity for tribal-like percussion. Drake's debut has this glamourous, city-at-night feel throughout with piles of lengthy intelligent verses from Drake himself as well as a smattering of guests, including Jay-z, Wayne, and fellow hip-hop newcomer Nicki Minaj. Review coming shortly.
