Yngwie Malmsteen recently claimed that his debut album, Steeler, played a key role in keeping guitar manufacturer Fender afloat during a challenging period in the mid-’80s.

It’s an outlandish statement, but befitting of the 55-year-old guitarist who truly did a lot to advance neoclassical metal’s place in music history. Malmsteen brings his 40-year-career and a new, bluesey album (Blue Lightning) to the Capitol Theatre.

Yngwie Malmsteen, Fri. June 7, 8 p.m. $30-$50. Capitol Theatre, Clearwater. rutheckerdhall.com.
