After building a community in Los Angeles, and only popping up in select cities like Miami, New York and Austin for South by Southwest, Pangea Sound finally landed in Tampa last Friday when two of its crew—Falcons and Supernova—came to Crowbar with the help of the Bay area’s own Mischief and Crash Test Joyride promoters.

Pangea’s vibe, as the moniker suggests, brings global flavors like afrobeat, South African amapiano and favela funk and fuses them with domestic sounds. The sold-out Ybor City crowd last Friday was just as international, and eclectic, and not only reflected the very best Tampa’s dance scene has to offer, but put it on stage, too, with sets by from Florida DJs like T. Couture, Sado Smooth, Mila Killa, Kevin Kon and even DJ Ku warming up the crowd.

The show was a big win for the city, and also proved that Tampa can throw ass quite nicely.
