Last Christmas, John McCauley broke fans’ hearts when he was forced to cancel Deer Tick’s New Year’s shows after being hospitalized with acute back pain.

A belated holiday gift arrived this morning with the announcement of a new album, and a tour that stops in the Tampa Bay area.

Hailing from Rhode Island, Deer Tick is among the preeminent purveyors of real American rock and roll—but had not dropped music since 2023 and 2024 companion releases Emotional Contracts and Contractual Obligations.

Coin-O-Matic—a narrative-driven ode to Providence—will be released on June 5, the band wrote in the announcement. It’s a record that’s been seven years in the making. The waiting paid off, McCauley added. “I’ve never heard a studio recording of our band operating with this level of confidence before. Not everything about getting older sucks,” he added.

Tickets to see Deer Tick play Bayboro Brewing in St. Petersburg on Friday, Nov. 13 are $30 and go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 13 at 10 a.m. EDT.
