It's been just over three months since we learned that St. Petersburg's State Theatre is up for sale, but now the property at 687 Central Ave. is under contract.
That's according to this online listing and the listing's broker, Matthew Bradley, who told CL that the property was indeed under contract. So what does that mean?
Without more information from the broker, buyer or seller, all we really know is that the sellers have accepted an offer from a buyer, but that the sale has not yet been completed. There are no more concerts listed on statetheatreconcerts.com, and the last event that's been listed on the website is a St. Pete Pride "prom" on June 22.
We've texted one of the building's owners, Anthony Dagostino, to see if more information is available. In a Facebook comment, State Theatre general manager Kendra Marolf said that, "It will continue to be a venue and shows are still Being booked. All announcements will be made in due time."
The news comes less than a year after fire code violations and inspections at State Theatre led to a downsized crowd capacity. The fire marshal, however, did approve a new capacity of 600 at the end of February. In March, State Theatre general manager Kendra Marolf told the Tampa Bay Times that owners were looking for a way out.
"If they can't sell both the business and property as a package, she said, they'll entertain 'any options or offers that come along that are serious,' the paper reported.
