✔️ Wolf-Face w/Très Bien/Wet Nurse Downtown St. Pete’s VFW Post 39 was the site of a killer garage-rock party in July, and that show’s organizer — Brian Schanck — is throwing another one to celebrate the holiday season. This one’s extra special, too, since it finds wild and crazy Clearwater rock-and-roll band Trés Bien reuniting with Mikey Rollingchild at the helm. The mod-rock band may be an alum of Fox’s failed The Next Great American Band reality competition, but Rollingchild and bandmates have never failed to please. The addition of Orlando’s Wet Nurse and St. Pete’s very own band of lupine lunatics, Wolf-Face, kinda make this one a Saturday no-brainer — just don’t curse out loud, OK? (VFW Post 39, St. Petersburg) INFO
✔️ The Body Electric Barefoot Concert: Career w/Vacancy The February release of Career’s bone-jarring, impeccably recorded Structures album was a highlight of the 2018 local music calendar, yet don’t expect to hear much, if any, of it at what is sure to be Body Electric’s loudest “Barefoot Concert” to date. Career frontman Ryan Fouche hit the road in the months after the Structures release and found himself in locales where he had to grapple with the South’s violent past; naturally, the narrative in Career’s new songs feature Structures’ same characters in new places as they try and suss out the meaning of it all. Vacancy, an almost equally loud noise-punk band from St. Pete, opens the show. (The Body Electric Yoga Company, St. Petersburg) INFO
✔️ Mosquito Teeth w/Twisty Chris & the Pudding Packs/Kyle Ruse Fubar front-of-house-do-it-all Todd Frain has a symbiotic relationship with off-the-wall Bay area hardcore outfit Mosquito Teeth. But a big part of that give-and-take gets put to rest on Saturday when the band headlines this show made even better by the addition of three comedians. The bar’s last night on the 600 Block is on Dec. 31, people — it’s time to pay your respects. (Fubar, St. Petersburg) INFO
✔️ Hometeam All-Stars A slice of Maddox Ranch comes to the Skipperdome this weekend thanks to Darryl “ Funky D” Quesenberry, who has played with bands like Food, Urban Gypsies, Porcupine and Half-Baked Guru. The current Unlimited Devotion keyboardist is set to be joined by Dennis Stadelman, Miguel Lantigua and Adam Mann for the pre-Hometown New Year’s Rally show on Saturday night, but we’re sure a handful of unexpected guests will hit the stage, too. (Skipper’s Smokehouse, Tampa) INFO
Lil Baby Remember when Lil Baby’s August show at Jannus Live got nixed? Well, this isn’t the makeup gig, but it’ll do. Mr. Baby has only been rapping for about 19 months, and while he’s still looking for a signature sound or style, he hasn’t had to look very far for a fanbase. Blame it on the bang-bang delivery on his big hit, “Yes, Indeed” — or his recent designation as FADER magazine’s Rookie of the Year — and then look to see if he can carry the momentum into the third year of his still-burgeoning career. (Whiskey North, Tampa) INFO
✔️ Daryl Hance Powermuse w/Mountain Holler Daryl Hance’s new album, Wild Blue Iris, may be a summertime record, but its fuzzy psych-rock and quintessentially Southern sound should still play well within the walls of Blue Note where Hance’s band, Powermuse, will dish out hearty slices of funk and blues drizzled in loads of vintage guitar tone. The ethereal sounds of St. Pete folk-crooner Mountain Holler open the show. (The Blue Note, Tampa) INFO
The Ood’s Final Show w/Prescribed Fire/Prople It’s over for The Ood, and the Tampa punk-a-billy band says goodbye to fans and friends with one last show with its rhythm section — bassist Loretta Go Getta and drummer McCracken — which is headed north in the weeks after the concert. Markky Karloff’s Prople project plays first. (Brass Mug, Tampa) INFO
Howie Day Sing along to his 2003 hit “Collide” all you want. We’ll stick with the sprawl of Howie Day’s Madrigals EP whose accompanying concert DVD burned a hole in our Playstation. The 37-year-old Bangor, Maine-born songwriter has enjoyed unwanted attention lately, but that tends to happen when TMZ reports the details of an alleged incident of domestic violence (Seattle police arrested him in May and charged him with one count of fourth-degree assault after an altercation with his girlfriend, and he pled not guilty before his court appearance a month later). (The Attic at Rock Brothers Brewing, Ybor City) INFO
✔️ G Herbo w/GlokkNine Just over 1,000 kids are about to get swervo on Saturday when the Chicago rapper formerly known as Lil Herb brings an incredible self-made survival story (plus an undeniably fun 2018 album) to The Ritz in Ybor City. “Rowdy” — a new single with another rapper headed for The Ritz in 2019, Vic Mensa — is burning up online charts, and an equally hyped up Orlando rapper, GlokkNine (who just headlined Jannus Live), opens the show.
