It’s been half a decade, but veteran emo and post-rock outfit The Appleseed Cast has emerged with a new album, The Fleeting Light of Impermanence, which sees release a week after this Ybor City show at Crowbar.

The album — just as moody as past Appleseed material but also one that adds new, experimental wrinkles to the band’s sound — used natural microphone setups to create eerie reverb and was cobbled together from hundreds of vignettes that were eventually recorded in three phases by engineers like Luke Tweedy and Duane Trower. Chris Crischi says that the latest single, “Chaotic Waves,” is about recognizing that the world is turbulent, full of clashes, and that in order to affect it, you have to first engage it.

“Ultimately, those engagements will be the only thing that lasts,” he said.

Noisy Los Angeles trio Tennis System opens the show.
